I can barely believe that we are coming down the home stretch with the Divine Experiment. It is with humility that i transparently share my experiences, knowing that God is doing great big things in so many of your lives! With my commitment to not eat at fast food, I committed to replacing every thought that lingers on fast food with praising the Lord or thanking God for what He is doing in my life. I desire to have more of Him throughout my day, and less of me. Last week, I have upped the ante ... Everytime I pass a fast food place, I give God glory. Now, driving on CR 54 can lead to a lot of praise! At first, i was a little shy to travel the road packed with fastfood, but now I crank up the worship music, roll down the window, praising God! Bring it on, Lord! The cars around me think i am nuts, but the funny thing is, that as i sing and smile and wave, many people are smiling and laughing back! The joy of the Lord is my strength! To God be the glory!

Linda's post cracked me up, way to ruin the sterotypical idea of what a crazy Christian looks like. I love it!! My family will also be limiting usage of our favorite addictions. Some things have definitely become apparent that need work. The biggest thing now for us is to now really put in motion a plan to use this time to include god more in our lives. We've definitely gotten the family thing back in order which I believe god means for us to tend to. But now has to come a push for something greater. I am up for the challange. Well, its the final turn to the home stretch. Us Dodzweit's have taken this season very well. My kids rarely argue and my wife and I are getting much more sleep. Last night, I drew faces in my kid's chins and they talked and sang while I recorded it on my phone. Great memories. None of which would have happened if the TV was on. To be honest, the no TV has hit me the hardest. I find myself staring longingly at the lifeless screen hoping something will appear. Ok, maybe its not that bad, but skipping TV is the least I could do to honor all that Jesus endured for me.

I am extremely happy to say that the chiacchio household is doing better than expected. My oldest son has found many mnay other things to do with his time other than video games. My daughter never wavered from the things she gave up. I managed to really really want mcdonald breakfast once. But I stayed away. Also my husband and are getting along better now that the iPod touch has found a spot on the counter instead of always being in my hand.  My husband put up a fight about participating. However, once he saw the rest of the family bonding and conquering what we set out to do, he joined in as well. That was divine intervention, I know it for sure. This experiment has been such a blessing that we are going to keep some of the changes or at least add them back in much smaller doses. Shhh don't tell my kids, it's going to be a surprise!!

This Divine Experiment reminds me of dealing with my Beloved children. When I want their full, undivided attention to give them important words for direction and love, i used to say "Look at me... Look at me, when I am speaking to you." Here is the deal that the Lord has been teaching me... He is always looking at me and speaking to me. But am I always looking at Him? Am I always looking at Him to receive all that He would like to say and do in my life? A friend exhorted me recently, "Where your attention goes, the power for living flows". Lord, You are my Peace, my Joy, my Hope, my Life and my Salvation. Help me to stay focused on You even after this experiment is through. I personally have decided to share the 21 Day Divine Experiment to a new person each day. Engage in conversations about what it means and invite others to join. This goes along in line with the message from a couple weeks back about getting our church report card up from the “C” in the area of advancing the kingdom. Also, I have decided to remove all beer, wine, and alcohol intake. What I have witness so far in day three is more peace and communication in my home - spending evenings with my wife and kids, enjoying the feeling of being so blessed.

Every action we take there is a choice to choose to walk in humbleness. Its amazing to see the beautiful response from choosing to ignore the need for praise/ acknowledgment. God is working in my marriage!!!!

Being humble and opening up my heart and time to God requires continuous mindful work. So far I am discovering how much time and energy I spend without Him, which is the beginning of my experiment. My goal is to increase my time spent in communion with God and allow that blessing to flow into my relationships with all those in my life. Great way to bring in Spring! This experiment has been a true blessing to my family in so many ways. At first my oldest son was going through some serious withdraws from video games, he was having a serious melt down. That just confirmed my conviction that we were doing the right thing. By the second day he started finding other things to do like go outside and play. He's even planning a fishing trip with his dad and brothers this weekend. I knew right away several things in my life that had a hold on me personally as well as my family and had tried in the past to put a stop to it without luck. SO I figured this would be torture doing it all at once. BUT this confirms to me that through god ALL things are possible. It's been so easy for me. I don't feel any stress over the things missing. I've prayed for a while now for god to help me with my unbelief, that HE could work in "forbiden" areas in my life. I'm now begining to see hope for other areas in my life that need work. I work in a hair salon with the public everyday, so like Doug, I have. Shared with as many people as possible our experiment. A couple of my coworkers have little diggs they like to take at me for believing and listenig to Christian music. But I know they just don't understand and feel sorry for them. OK, Call me a wierdo, but I strongly dislike technology. Therefore, if I was to sacrifice it to the Divine Experiment in my life, a huge Hallelujah would be heard from my very core to the Heavens. So in order to burn my own desires, I am giving up all fast food. Doesnt sound like much, but as a busy mother, i have allowed fast food to become a habit of convenience and part of my autopilot programming. I am particularly fond of Chik Fil A! Just avoid the places, right? So I run an errand to Bed Bath Beyond, and start catch a wiff of baking bread at Panera. Salivating, I turn my head away, repeating "I love you Lord" under my breath. Next day, however, my daughter's class schedules their carwash at Chik Fil A! Yikes! OK, i fight the temptation head on and decide not to go near the store. Then, after a few hours, i had to "go right now"! Be brave! Say a prayer! And run the gauntlet of yummy french fries and chicken biscuits to the restroom! Whoo, safe. Slam the door closed w all my might! Upon reentry into the danger zone, i mistakenly believe evil is under my foot and so i dont give it another thought. Until I find myself at the front of the line ordering a freshly squeezed lemonade! One little drink isnt cheating is it? YES!! So i turn to leave and as i make my way out the door w my shoulders slumped, the Chik Fil A manager kindly hands me a coupon for FREE chicken minis. Ohhh, the spirit may be willing, but the flesh is weak! Oh How the mighty have fallen! But God in His gracious goodness, allows me to see the ridiculousness of the situation, and joy starts to bubble up from in side me, where i start laughing at this whole scenario. The joy of the Lord is my strength and the Lord Jesus in me will not be overcome. Was surprised to acknowledge how many different ways pride is manifested in my life. Going through my day consciously giving God His rightful place has been exciting. Giving up my Facebook and taking up my running again has not been as difficult as I thought, but has been eye opening as to how much more time I am able to spend with God! Also didn't realize that this experiment isn't just at our church. I. Have been encouraged and filled with expectancy for what God's gonna do in all of us after reading other peoples testimonies/blogs!

Enjoyed the challenge on Sunday. I was hoping for something like the Staples commercial with the Easy button. LOL. We have cut way down on the TV and my youngest daughter actually asked me to go out and play catch. She has started playing soft ball and figured she might as well practice with dear old dad because there was nothing to do inside. . . . . I'm looking forward to taking this journey with you all . . . my church family. For our Divine Experiment, us Dodzweits are cutting out TV and digital entertainment for 21 days. Why? Because it is a substitute for true relationship and connection. If I ever lost a child, I would have huge regrets about the time I wasted watching TV or playing a game on my phone. I know it is not going to be easy and no one relishes the post-work day TV more than I do but I believe that my heart and my family will be better for it. Instead, we will do a family devotional and play some board games. If we (Dodzweits) make this sacrifice . . . Will He (God) bring a new level of unity and love to our family so we can love Him more? So the decision has been made and we too are taking the plunge and losing the TV for 21 days. On top of that my wife is giving up coffee for 21 days (pray for me!) and I will be giving up sugar and bread (pray for my wife). I can't wait to see what God does in my life! I'm a college student so naturally Facebook takes up about 1/3 of my days. The first thing I heard God ask me to give up was the big FB so tata status updates and notifications, you will be missed but my finals grades will be happy and more importantly so will my God.

The Holcombs are still in the process of deciding what to do for the next 21 days. The no TV, etc is very challenging and we're thinking thats the route to go...but we'll let you know. Its been a bit difficult because one of us attended the service this morning and the other one didn't (John had a family reunion)....so at this point, we're just trying to both get on the same page :)

The Harvey's were considering which way to go... The no TV of course, was on the table, but we were also considering fasting any type of convenience food/drink purchases. Since we couldn' t make up our minds, we've decided to do a bit of both... Each family member can choose one tv show per week to watch and there will be no eating out, no (ikes) StarBucks, Circle K or Publix Chicken - for 21 days. We will do our Church devotion and a family Bible study each evening... probably starting with the verse (sorry - don't know the address) I will not sacrifice to the Lord something that costs me nothing - paraphrased! We're looking forward to seeing how God reveals himself to us in this manner. I know that He will. Tim and I continually told our first batch of kids that when they honor God, He honors them. We saw it too many times to count. Subrina has seen it too in her life. I'm believing that God will reveal Himself to us in unique and tangible ways over the next 21 days - especially to Gaige. I'm hoping that it is manifested in his little spirit by deep trust that will lead to self discipline, obedience and respect for those in authority over him. Please pray especially for Gaige as I know we are going to have a break through with him and his control issues that stem from his very tumultuous beginnings.

Ok so, I knew right away a few things that have been eating my family down. I'm giving up all itouch gaming as well as facebook. But an even bigger one for me is Mcdonalds breakfast! This will be a huge challenge! My oldest son is reluctantly giving up all gaming, he's already begun a slight melt down but I will remain strong. Pray for me, lol. My daughter is giving up facebook and junk food. My husbands been working all day so I haven't gotten the chance to talk to him about it. I'm hoping he will choose no wine! We will see. I am excited to start something new for my family and hopefully it's just the begining of a healthier physical and spiritual life for us.

I, Beth Mazzei, make a commitment to God & my family at Grow Life Church for the next 21 days to make the following changes in my daily life: 1) At least 1 hour appointment with God daily – ½ hour reading Bible & ½ hour listening for God’s voice. 2) Walk daily for exercise. 3) No drinking with meals – I confess I’ve been cheating with my lab band by drinking with my meals in order to eat more food. I am so excited that we are doing this. I just love a good spiritual cleanse! I've decided to give up the chains of Facebook for 21 days and instead put feet to my faith. After Pastor James' message on burdens a few weeks ago, I have been praying about a certain ministry to women and how to start it. Well, last night I started a blog and I am going to put my time and effort into praying about and working on this. I am excited. My husband and I, although he is traveling, are going to do over-the-phone devotionals and then study the topic of the devotional further in the Bible. This is great! I was not in service yesterday, but when Chad explained the “experiment” to me I was eager to participate. Chad decided very quickly that giving up t.v. was the direction he needed to go. After praying about it I realized that I spend most of my nights unwinding from my day which includes…watching t.v, reading, even straightening the house, etc. So I have decided that when the kids go to bed God gets my undivided attention. The Hudson's are giving up TV for 21 days. I finally figured out what we were suppose to give up after struggling with it for two days. I figured if I was trying every which way NOT to give up TV then TV was my answer! So far so good, I won two games of UNO tonight. We have made one concession we plan to watch Biggest Loser on Tuesday nights, then last night Sadie said "I feel like we're cheating". I thought Gatton would revolt but he said he thought we should give up TV too because it was what he didn't want to give up the most. We have been doing the devotional together as well.

I visited your church on the first day of the experiment. I was with my daughter Dawn Chiacchio and the grandchildren. I was very blessed by the praise and worship and the message. Since I am on the other side of the state I cannot attend regularly but I did decide to support Dawn and the kids in the experiment. I have been trying without success to lose weight, my addiction being sweets. So I thought why not give it a try so I am now on day 18 of no sweets and the Lord has blessed me with a weight loss of 9lbs so far. I am amazed that it has not been hard at all. Being that my body it a temple of the Holy Spirit I should have known HE would have helped me if I had asked HIM and really made an effort.
